Dangers of excessive fixing of EyelashesEye lashes is one of the key items when doing a proper makeup.
Women love artificial eyelashes because it automatically transforms the entire look, making the makeup look more refined.

Dangers of excessive fixing of Eyelashes
Eyelashes extensions are supposed to be used occasionally but because of how great women’s eyes look with them, many have made it an everyday makeover item.

Though the love for lashes is massive, there s need to have in mind the health hazards that may occur if fixing lashes is not done in moderation.

A resident doctor and an ophthalmologist at the, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, Uchenwa Ezemba have said that there are hazards if the lashes are not fixed by professionals.

In her words,
“Eyelashes extension doesn’t necessarily have a direct negative impact on the ocular health especially when handled by professional.”
But like everything, it has its risks.

First is the handling- One may be exposed to infection if done by someone with fungal infection of the nails which is quite common. The organism may lodge at the lashes.
Secondly: Due to reduction in the rate of face washing once the extension is attached, this creates a part way for infections like blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids involving eyelashes follicles) and its associated sequel

Excessive application of eyelashes can cause alopecia of the natural ones. Meaning that the natural eyelashes will diminish and a resultant complications of its absence, it loses its protective characteristics and increases rates of foreign body entering the eyes.

Also the glues and other agents used in attaching the lashes contain different chemicals which could be allergic to the eyes of some. These induces lots of allergic reaction in the eye ranging from the mild ones like conjunctivitis, keratitis to severe ones. Keratitis is inflammation of cornea. These Could lead to blindness if not well handled.

In general, not to be completely ruled out but done with moderation and expertise.
