World Humanitarian Day: Mrs Obiano Osodieme commends UN for honoring women

The Wife of Anambra State Governor, and founder of the NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ), Dr Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has commended the United Nations for honouring women especially aid workers around the world who risk their own lives to help save and improve the lives of others.

World Humanitarian Day: Mrs Obiano Osodieme commends UN for honoring women

Osodieme praised the UN in a statement at the state capital, Awka signed on her behalf by the Chief Media Officer, Emeka Ozumba, to mark the World Humanitarian Day, also called on philanthropists to support indigent women and children who are in urgent need to survive under harsh economic conditions.

Osodieme said that it is very clear that women and children are the most vulnerable in an increasingly self-centred approach adopted by many in order to survive daily but it behoves that the indigent and those at risk like widows must not be abandoned no matter the condition.

According to Osodieme, “Even as the struggle for survival gets unbearable, and our extended family system which hitherto acts as cushion is fast eroded, it is important that the haves do not abandon the have-nots. Everyone one should be their brothers and sisters keeper with special attention to indigent women and children.”

Osodieme noted that one of the ways to help the needy survive the hard times is through healthcare support.

She therefore counselled philanthropists in Anambra to take advantage of the Anambra Stat Health Insurance Scheme which offers greatly subsidized healthcare delivery at the cost of N12,000 per Annum for each patient to ameliorate the plight of those who are in need of medicare but can’t afford it.

The wife of the Governor assured that on her part, she will continue use the platform of her NGO, CAFÉ to stand up for humanitarian courses that impact positively on both those in the line of duty across risk prone areas and others who are less privileged.

CAFÉ is promoting human capital development under its Skills training and acquisition programme where it has so far trained and empowered over 4,600 women, widows and youths and gave each trainee start-up money to take off on graduation.

The NGO has built 22 houses and donated free to indigent widows; to promote hygiene it has constructed 17 public toilets in rural markets in communities across Anambra, and 46 water borehole projects to assist women in hard-to-reach communities.

It also facilitated free corrective surgeries for over 100 children and persons with congenital mouth disorders of Cleft lip and Cleft palate in collaboration with the Smile Train International to mention a few.
