My hair isn’t to be tamed-Ronke Raji reacts to the outrage against H&M for not styling the hair of a black child model

A few days ago, multinational clothing-retail company, H&M was criticized by many online, especially black people, for not styling the hair of a black child model before taking photos of her.

The brand had just released a new line of outfits, and had different kinds of models to showcase them. One of their models was a black girl whose hair looked uncombed and this got people talking.

Meanwhile, it was explained that the brand did not also combed the hair of the other child models because the photoshoot happened after school.

Reacting to this, Ronke Raji has shared her thoughts on what people think about natural hair and why they need their orientation changed about it.

Read what she said,

So funny story is that I actually wanted to talk about the lack of Afro hair photos on Pinterest when I took this photo (I use Pinterest for my mood boards and It was honestly hard to find exact images of concepts I came up with) BUT THEN I saw something pretty interesting going around social media about an @hm ad with a beautiful girl and her natural hair.

The first thing that came to my mind was a comment I received a couple of weeks back asking me why my edges weren’t done. I’ve been natural for almost 8 years now and I thought things had changed, people were getting educated but it doesn’t seem so.

Natural hair, especially the thicker textures like mine isn’t supposed to be tamed or teased or flattened. When God created our hair he created it just as it is free, grows away from gravity, cotton candy looking. No matter how short or long your hair is the way you embrace it matters to everyone around you.

That beautiful black girl on @hm website, her hair was perfect. All the other girls in the same ad had free hair so why couldn’t she? Change your mentality on how natural hair is supposed to look. My hair isn’t to be tamed. ❤️
