World diabetes day; Simple ways to prevent diabetes

14th November is world diabetes day and we will be covering simple ways to prevent diabetes.

According to WHO, world health organization, Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death world wide.

It is also a major cause of costly & debilitating complications such as

  • Heart Attacks
  • Stroke
  • Kidney failure
  • Blindness
  • Lower limb amputation

14th November marks the birth of Frederick Banting who co discovered Insulin about 98 years ago.

Frederick was awarded the novel prize for the discovery of insulin.

The discovery of insulin is one of the biggest breakthrough in medicine and has saved millions of lives.

Diabetes is mostly caused by what we consume so it’s best we are more aware of what we put into our bodies.

There are basically two types of diabetes

Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, below are some quick facts about them.

Some simple ways to prevent diabetes are as follows

  • A healthy diet, fruits and vegetables should always be in your meals.
  • Avoid sugar sweetened beverages
  • Avoid tobacco
  • Medication and treatments if you have it already.
  • Physical exercise, this is generally beneficial to everyone.

If we all do our part, we can reduce the number of people who dies yearly because of diabetes.
