FULL LIST: ‘Gemini Man’, ‘Joker’, ‘Us’ make Oscars 2020 shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has released the shortlist for the 2020 Oscars — months after ‘Lionheart’, Nigeria’s entry for the award, was disqualified.

TheCable had reported how the AMPAS disqualified Genevieve Nnaji’s movie, Nigeria’s first-ever entry for the award, in a move that caused a stir among Nollywood stakeholders and foreign moviemakers alike.

Organizers of the much-anticipated 2020 award announced its release of the shortlist being considered for the Oscar plaques ahead of the D-day.

The listicle spans nine categories including ‘International Feature Film’, ‘Makeup and Hairstyling’, ‘Music (Original Score)’, ‘Music (Original Song)’, ‘Animated Short Film’, ‘Live Action Short Film’, and ‘Visual Effects’.

Among the movies that made the list are ‘Us’, a 2019 American horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele and starring Lupita Nyong’o, a Kenyan-Mexican actress.

Others are ‘Alita: Battle Angel’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Cats’, ‘Gemini Man’, and ‘Joker’.
