Greater Lagos 2020 Extravaganza has overcome hitches- Shuli Adebolu

Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Shuli Adebolu, has said that ‘teething problems’ encountered on the first day of the end-of-year seven-day musical extravaganza, Greater Lagos 2020, organised by the state government have been overcome.

The programme had started on Christmas Day, December 25, and has recorded electrifying activities simultaneously at various venues– Ikorodu, Ikeja, Eko Atlantic City, Badagry and Epe. It will be brought to an end with a grand finale on December 31 at all the venues

Reacting to insinuations in some quarters that the programme hadn’t taken off smoothly, Adebolu maintained that initial hiccups were quickly contained.

He said, “I make bold to tell you that despite initial challenges, the show actually kicked off in all the locations as planned, except in Agege. Besides the initial challenge that was swiftly addressed, I am glad to say that there have been no reports of security breaches, no trouble with managing the crowd and Lagos Television has been beaming the events live.”

Adebolu also expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of Lagosians at all the five locations. According to the commissioner, over 10,000 attended the Badagry show while 4,000 people showed up at Epe on Christmas and Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was expected to be at the Badagry venue of the show on Friday (yesterday). He was billed to visit all the venues of the programme across the state at different times.

This is even as Lagosians, in their numbers, have continued to troop out to savour the performances of both up and coming and popular artistes.

The Greater Lagos 2020 event was designed to feature over 35 concerts, drone shows, exhibitions, dances, fireworks display, music, talent hunt and performances by entertainers such as Olamide, Naira Marley, Zlatan, Seyi Shay, Fireboy DML, Small Doctor, Atawewe, Lyta, Oladips, Reminisce and a host of others.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, also stated that reports which claimed that the programme did not begin at the same time in all the locations, were false. He insisted that the government had delivered what it promised on the Greater Lagos 2020 extravaganza.
