Nollywood’s Ify Onwuemene Seeks Financial Aid For Cancer Treatment

June 29,2020
Share:

Gloria Young, a Nollywood actress, has used her platform to seek financial aid for Ify Onwuemene, an industry colleague of hers, who she said is now battling endometrial cancer.

Young took to her Instagram page to call on Nigerians to donate whatever they can afford into Onwuemene’s bank account to help the ailing film star to foot her medical bills.

Her post included two pictures that showed the difference in body weight with respect to the ailing actress as to when she was healthy and after she came down with the disease.

“We need help for Ify Onwuemene, an actress from the days of Sam loco and Enebeli Elebuwa. I worked with her on the set of Tajudeen Adepetu’s ‘Everyday People’ in the late ’90s,” Young wrote.

“She’s down with endometrial cancer and tried sourcing funds on her own. Nothing is too small. Send whatever you can to Ifey Onwuemene, Fidelity Bank 6010999993. Thank you.”

Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the inner lining of the uterus. This lining is called the endometrium. It is the result of the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body.

In April, Young had lamented that many entertainers in Nigeria could face hunger if they don’t have alternative ways to make ends meet amid the effect of the coronavirus pandemic in the showbiz industry.

“Most people in the industry would go hungry if we sit down and do not find an alternative within the confines of our homes to get the industry going,” she had said.

“The coronavirus pandemic has affected all forms of the economy, including entertainment which is one of the greatest employers of labour that has been greatly affected.

“When the pandemic is over, our lives won’t be the same again. We hope to use the internet more in subsequent productions, following the current experiences we’re passing through.”
