Parenting: Raising the male child rightly

June 1,2020
Share:

Parenting style contributes greatly to the kind of man the male child becomes eventually.

A popular verse said “Train up a child the way he should grow. When he is old, he won’t depart from it ”

Simply means that our sons become men we model them to be by the way we raise them.

Parenting does not come with a manual hence its different strokes for different folks.

When you look at the society and the many atrocities and pains inflicted on women by men, you are forced to ask how these boys were thought to become men.

Boys will always be boys is one phrase that has made a failure of the efforts of so many parents.

They neglect the signs of decadence in the male child focusing more on raising the perfect daughter.

The neglected male children grow up to prey on the perfect daughters.

It’s either ill-treatment, molestation, rape, rage and so many other inhumane acts perpetrated by the male child towards the girl child.

Now how can parents raise responsible men?

Raising a  responsible man takes cautious and intentional efforts on the part of parents.

The foundation needs to be solid hence the need to start early enough. Know that a habit formed consciously or unconsciously becomes a strong part of a person regardless of gender.

These are ways of raising the male child

Instill Morals and Gentleness: When you begin early to do this, the wireframe becomes solid and peer pressure won’t matter to them.

When you inculcate a habit that is great, no matter where you are at a particular time, your behavior would always reflect your wireframe.

Your behavior and carriage goes long way in determining what kids become. What they see, they emulate without reasoning It.

Act right at all time, for the male child, the father or father becomes their role model.

Teach them how to treat a woman: This starts with the women in the family.

If a boy gets away with beating his sisters and relations,  he gets accustomed to that and it’s ‘Normal’ to treat a wife,  colleague, and neighbors in this way.

Discuss their Emotions With Them: Emotions are powerful and learning to handle each one correctly can be really rewarding.

Discuss these emotions from rage, lust, bitterness, sex, and many others and suggest how best to handle them.

Parents are to discuss sex with the male child right before puberty, making them understand it’s important to respect their partner’s feelings while at it.

Encourage Homeliness: Don’t be that parent that won’t allow the boys to do some chores because you feel it’s a woman thing.

Make him do dishes, laundry, sweep the house, and even cook for the family as well.

It becomes a part of him and he won’t find It strange having to do that in his own home when he settles down.

As parents and caregivers,  let our watchword always revolve around

“Train up a child in the way he should grow, when he is old will not depart from it.

Parents ought to be extremely cautious with our reaction, what we say, and our conduct around these kids.

Our women will get relieved with handling the excesses of poorly raised men when parents begin to adjust and inculcate the right manners amongst men.

Together, we can better our world and violence, rape, abuse, molestation denial, and others will become history.
