Oyetomiwa Elizabeth Daniel of Xtra Brides Lagos to bring 1000 women out of poverty

Although, there are lot of men out there known for their wealth and philanthropic work, as well, there are women working hard to change the world for good.

One of these women is the founder and Creative Director of Xtra Brides Lagos (XBL), Oyetomiwa Elizabeth Daniel.

Ms. Daniel has continued her upward trajectory by combining entrepreneurial success with philanthropic undertakings, a move that positioned the soaring fashion brand for far-reaching impact on society.

Following a four-year rapid rise to the top of the fashion world, XBL opened a new frontier on the humanitarian front with the recent unveiling of the brand’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative tailored towards lifting 1000 women out of poverty.

The Paris-trained fashion entrepreneur in charting a new direction for her fashion powerhouse brand decided to adopt the formula of empowering less privileged women, who as breadwinners would become a bulwark against poverty.

The Xtra Brides Lagos intervention programme, as she recently disclosed, involves the distribution of 1, 000 industrial sewing machines to underprivileged women in addition to training the beneficiaries on the technicalities of the fashion Industry.

The XBL boss, herself, is an example of a self-empowered woman. After her education at reputable institutions including St Louis Girls Secondary School and Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, she served the mandatory one-year national youth service, but in the end, preferred to be self-employed. Having taken to fashion designing, she proceeded to Paris, the fashion capital of the world, for further training in 2019.

Two years after setting up her fashion house, Xtra Brides Lagos brand has become a viable company in its own right.

The XBL boss, noting that there has been so much talk about reducing poverty in Nigeria, stated: “We have seen several interventions by the government but they merely scratched the surface of the problem.”

Continuing, the Abeokuta, Ogun State-born business maven said: “The better sustainable way of reducing poverty is empowering women because a woman empowered will have a positive effect on the entire family.”

Disclosing the nature of the Xtra Brides Lagos intervention, Oyetomiwa Elizabeth Daniel said: “The plan is to create “job creators” among less privileged Nigerian women.
