Review of “Urban Rebel Trends”: A Bold Exploration of Urban Aesthetics by Ponda’s Reality

I was thrilled to be part of an exclusive audience at a private event, witnessing the debut of the daring “Urban Rebel Trends” collection by Babatunde Olaniwun, the visionary creative director of Ponda’s Reality, on May 16, 2022.

The collection seamlessly merged streetwear’s raw energy with high-fashion elegance, crafting a narrative that was both edgy and luxurious.

Each piece was a testament to Babatunde’s mastery of fabric and form, blending bold silhouettes, rich textures, and striking color combinations to create a collection that was as cohesive as it was individualistic.

The garments embodied a rebellious spirit while maintaining an undeniable sophistication—a delicate balance that only a designer of Babatunde’s caliber could achieve.

The first look set the tone for the night, featuring a male model in an olive-green bomber jacket layered over a distressed white t-shirt and paired with faded blue jeans. The outfit was minimalist yet impactful, with the bomber’s rugged feel offset by the fresh, clean lines of the jeans.

The model held a pair of designer sneakers in vibrant hues, which injected a bold statement into the ensemble, and stylish sunglasses completed the look, giving off a cool, effortless vibe. It was the perfect introduction to a collection that would continue to surprise and captivate.

Next came a more casual, laid-back look—a t-shirt and shorts combination that exuded urban cool. The relaxed fit of the t-shirt and the just-above-the-knee shorts were perfect for navigating city streets in comfort, without compromising on style. What made this outfit special was its simplicity; the subtle branding with the “PR” initials was enough to provide identity without being overpowering. The lightweight fabric made it ideal for warmer days or as a base for layering, while the understated design maintained an air of polished minimalism that felt refreshingly effortless.
One of the highlights of the show was an athletic-inspired ensemble that took the t-shirt and shorts combination to a new level. This time, the silhouette was sleeker, more fitted, giving the outfit a dynamic, action-ready feel. It was an ode to athleisure, using performance fabrics like jersey and technical cotton to ensure both style and functionality. The elasticized waistband on the shorts offered flexibility and comfort, while the design was clearly made for movement, tapping into the sporty-meets-streetwear trend that has taken over the fashion world.

A particularly bold piece was a vibrant yellow sweater emblazoned with “PONDAS REALITY” in subtle black lettering across the chest. The long sleeves and relaxed fit made it a statement in comfort, while pairing it with slightly loose, ripped jeans added an edge to the look. The knee rips gave the outfit a rebellious touch, elevating the casual, laid-back aesthetic. This ensemble was an embodiment of casual confidence—effortlessly blending comfort with urban style.

The oversized plush coat that followed was one of the most dramatic looks of the night. With its voluminous, cocoon-like silhouette, it was right on trend with the global obsession for oversized outerwear.

Designed with warmth and protection in mind, the coat didn’t sacrifice style, thanks to its luxurious texture and impeccable tailoring.

Worn over a crisp white t-shirt and sky-blue denim, the look was bold, chic, and undeniably cool. It struck the perfect balance between high-fashion and street sensibility, making it one of the standout pieces of the collection.

The final look was my personal favorite—a bright red two-piece tracksuit that combined sporty and stylish in the best possible way. The tracksuit featured a long-sleeved sweatshirt and relaxed-fit pants, with black stripes running down the sides for a sharp contrast.

The vivid red color was arresting, while the loose fit of the pants added to the overall comfort of the outfit. Paired with black slip-on shoes, the look was effortlessly cool, versatile enough for both casual wear and light activities. It was a powerful yet relaxed way to close out the show, leaving a lasting impression of Babatunde’s creative vision.
Babatunde Olaniwun’s genius shone through in every detail of the “Urban Rebel Trends” collection.

His fearless use of bold color, inventive textiles, and daring silhouettes brought a fresh energy to contemporary fashion. The collection’s originality solidified Ponda’s Reality as a trailblazer in the industry. “Urban Rebel Trends” was more than just a collection—it was a statement, pushing creative boundaries and redefining urban style for the modern generation.

Ultimately, this collection left a lasting mark on the fashion world. Ponda’s Reality’s commitment to innovation, creativity, and bold expression positioned them as a true force in contemporary fashion. Each piece spoke to the dynamic spirit of urban culture, while Babatunde’s artistry invited us all to embrace our individuality and express our personal style. “Urban Rebel Trends” wasn’t just about clothes—it was about empowering people to break free from the norm and make a statement with their fashion.
