Filmmaker, Otu Njama passes away hours after losing colleague, Biyi Bandele

Filmmaker Otu Njama passed suddenly on Tuesday, August 9, in the late hours, plunging the entertainment industry into yet another state of mourning.

Around 9 o’clock at night, Otu, in his thirties, was discovered dead in his home in Lagos state’s First Unity estate’s Badore, Ajah neighborhood.

He reportedly visited the hospital for a checkup and was instructed to relax because of his high blood pressure, which was said to be 200. However, he was unable to do so because he has a performance on Thursday, August 11.

According to reports, he stopped by the neighborhood tavern he owns.

He went home after having dinner with his staff and told them that he didn’t want to be disturbed.

Hours later, his lifeless body was tragically discovered in his residence.

Judith, his sister, who confirmed the tragic incident, claimed a blood pressure medication was discovered in his flat, but she was not aware of his medical conditions.

Otu passed away just a day after he joined his Nollywood colleagues in mourning their beloved colleague, renowned director, Biyi Bandele, on social media.

According to a statement sent by the family on Tuesday morning, August 9, Bandele passed away in Lagos on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the age of 54.

His coworkers also verified Bandele’s passing, expressing shock and sorrow as they posted a picture of him to mourn him.

Shaibu Husseini wrote:

“Sad day globally for the theatre and film industry. This is so so tragic. At 54? We have just lost an Institution.”
