Mo Abudu to oversee directing, producing of short films

With two short films, Nigerian film producer, Mo Abudu will make her directorial debut.

The filmmaker officially announced on Monday that she would be helming the short films “Her Perfect Life” and “Iyawo Mi.”

Since directing her first full-length film, “Fifty,” in 2015, the EbonyLife CEO has hired outside film industry professionals to oversee the directing of her films while she controls the storytelling for her production firm.

But with the two movies, Abudu will be in control of the entire production, a change that comes approximately five years after she took a directing course at the London Film School.

Onajite Johnson-Ibrahim, a 39-year-old career woman who owns an expanding business, has a husband and two children, but resolves to “end it all” in her struggle with mental illness, is the subject of the movie “Her Perfect Life.”

Pearl Thusi, Joseph Benjamin, Omawunmi Dada, Uzo Osimpka, Christian Paul, and Mary Lazarus all appear in the movie.

In contrast, the Yoruba-language movie “Iyawo Mi” portrays the tale of Kunle, a family man who returns home one night to dread.

His wife, Eniola, who is yelling at their kids and neighbors and threatening to kill everyone, appears to have gone insane.

In a chain of unfortunate circumstances, Kunle decides to handle the situation on his own.

Starring in the movie are Jude Chukwuka, Adedimeji Lateef, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Segun Arinze.

Abudu said the following in relation to the movie titles:

“I believe in learning and understanding any major assignment I undertake. Directing is an art form that takes years to master, so I’m beginning with baby steps.

I have written two short films that I will be directing.

Although these stories are fictional, they highlight the mental health challenges, hardly spoken about in Nigerian society, that many people deal with all over the world.

Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, income, or social class, and they are on the increase.”

The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Your Excellency, and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel are just a few of the widely acclaimed Nollywood movies that Abudu produced.

Her blockbusters include “Castle & Castle,” “Oloture,” and “Blood Sisters,” which are all a part of a significant agreement with Netflix.
