For three days, September 7 to 9, the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos was a beehive of activities, as the 8th edition of the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, AFWN, took centre stage, projecting the culture and some of the finest African-inspired fashion designs to a global audience.

African

For the first time since its inception in 2014, the event was held in collaboration with the Lagos Fashion Fair owned by Atlantic Exhibition and the Toyin Lawani’s Masterclass.

It featured a large exhibition marketplace, appealing to lovers of fashion, accessories, footwear, hair and beauty, which provided visitors with the opportunity to shop and experiment with the latest designs from African-inspired designers.

Preceding the runway shows, was the Toyin Lawani’s Masterclass, where attendees had the opportunity to listen to  industry experts on their work ethics and success stories.

The runway show kicked off with the Adire people’s catwalk, where selected individuals who were not models, showcased their Adire outfit and were rewarded for their efforts.

Collections showcasing  the rich African heritage, with lots of Adire, Aso Oke, intricate African prints, chiffon, satin, net lace were used in crafting dresses with fitted waistlines and dresses that ruled the runway especially dresses with fitted waist and elaborate sleeves.

One of the major highlights of this year’s event was the presentation of Special Recognition Awards, to individuals who have excelled and contributed to the growth of the industry, by Her Excellency Ambassador, Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State and the Matron of AFWN, wrapping up the event for the year.

Here are some designs from the show.
