Banky W solicits public support to run for political office

Singer-turned-politician, Olubankole Wellington, better known as Banky W is soliciting public support to run for office in Lagos.

Banky W was declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party House of Representatives primaries for Lagos State’s Eti-Osa federal constituency in June.

Banky W won the PDP primary for the constituency, which was held on May 22 across the state but was later cancelled by the party.

However, the musician and actor won the rescheduled election by a landslide vote of 24 to 5.

Banky W, who joined the PDP in June, solicited public funding on his official social media handles while campaigning for the seat in 2023.

He said:

If Impact is truly the goal, then we must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines; we must get into the system and fix it.

To bolster his case for public support, the singer stated that mainstream Nigerian politics is a difficult and costly endeavour.

He urged people to see his post as an invitation to collaborate with him on the journey.

This is not the first time the father of one will seek financial support for his political aspirations.

In 2019, he also asked his fans, friends, well-wishers, and supporters of his former political party, the Modern Democratic Party, to back his bid for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives in the general elections.
