Idowu Obasa donates kidney machine to LASUTH

September 12,2022

Former two-term Chairman of Lagos’ Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Idowu Osuolale Obasa, has donated a Lithotripsy equipment to the Urology unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja.

With this machine, patients would no longer need to undergo painful surgical treatments to treat kidney stones and related illnesses.

Instead of chopping into the body, which could result in a variety of surgical issues or hospitalization for days, doctors would be able to position patients in front of a machine that delivers stunning sound waves that would shatter kidney stones from the body within minutes.

Obasa, the founder of Biomedical Limited, Nigeria’s first company to develop intravenous fluids, stated that he was moved to donate the machine because he suffered from chronic kidney sickness.

He had underlying medical issues that necessitated him to visit large hospitals all around the world.

When he traveled to an Indian hospital for treatment, he was surprised to hear that the lithotripsy machine was commonly available but not in Nigeria where he believes there are more trained doctors.

Irked, he resolved to fill the vacuum by purchasing the device, which costs at least N50 million.

The Lagos State government praised Obasa for his generosity and urged other Nigerians to follow suit in order to standardize the medical infrastructure.

Obasa’s desire to help Nigerians in need led to his company deworming 400,000 Nigerian school children for free last year.
