Actress gets N5m bail after accused naira misuse

Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, has been granted N5 million in bail by Judge Chukwujekwu Anneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly misusing the redesigned naira notes.

Ms. Omoseyin was charged on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with walking on and spraying the newly designed naira notes.

At a gathering in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos, the actress was accused of spraying and trampling on brand-new N100,000 notes.

But she entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

Judge Aneke admitted the defendant to bail and one surety in the same amount in his decision on Wednesday.

According to the court, the surety must be employed by the government and possess real estate located within its territorial authority.

The surety must also show three years of tax-clearance documents.

The defendant was also instructed to leave her international passport in the custody of the court registrar.

He set the trial date for April 3rd.

The defendant was accused of committing the crime on January 28 at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, as stated in the accusations.

S.I. Sulaiman, the prosecutor, claimed that while the defendant was dancing, she was crushing and spraying the freshly designed naira notes.
