Why I paused music for ‘Gangs of Lagos’ role – Zlatan Ibile

Nigerian hip-hop sensation, Zlatan Ibile, has revealed that he temporarily put his music career on hold to prepare for his role in the highly anticipated movie “Gangs of Lagos.”

In a recent conversation with Samuel Eni, the media personality, the Zanku crooner stated that he had always been passionate about acting, but he was highly selective about the kind of movie he wanted to act in.

However, when he was offered a role in Amazon Prime’s first African project, he knew that it was the perfect opportunity for him. “I have always wanted to act,” Zlatan said.

He added, “I had a picture in my head. But I didn’t want it to be just any kind of movie. So, when I was called up that they wanted me to be in a movie by Amazon Prime, I said, ‘Yes, this is the actual one I want.'”

Zlatan played the role of Kash, a notorious gangster in “Gangs of Lagos,” and he disclosed that it took him months to prepare for the role.

The hip-hop artist said he had to learn the moves of his idols, Jet Li and Jackie Chan, to fit into the character.

“It took me months to go learn those Jet Li moves, Jackie Chan moves,” he said. “It was stressful a little bit. I took out my time. I had to like pause recording music for a while. It took us like two months or so, and then we rounded up with the shooting of the movie. The movie was shot in 2021.”

Zlatan expressed his joy at being able to fulfill his dream of acting and explained that he was grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an exciting project.
