A DESIGNER IN HER ELEMENT: HOW EWEJE AYOMIBO DEBORAH DELIVERED ADYMi’s LATEST COLLECTION

Summer Bold was unveiled within the open, sun-warmed landscape of Johnson Jakande Tinubu Park on May 6, 2024.

The designer and pattern maker, Eweje Ayomibo Deborah, selected this urban green space for the latest production of her brand, ADYMi, allowing the clothes to interact with nature.

One of the looks is the green strapless column dress that stands between the vibe of style restraint and extravaganza. The lightweight fabric does well in the grand and order-forming curve of the long, columnar design. The feather trims at the bust and hem create the final, majestic flare for the whole piece.

However, they need some smooth piping transitions for the outline of the trims.

The long-sleeved fiery red bodycon dress is the most appealing of the creations. It could be called a wild dance by the swirls. The ruching was well executed right on the hip line but the seam makes a bit of a ripple to the back. A coverstitch would hide those well, and a stable binding hem would be very appropriate for the neckline.

Another ensemble is a gown with a panel bodice complete with a distinct pleated tab over the top and a full-length A-line hanging skirt. This gown’s sensational highlight is the sheer contrast between the orange top and the dark green skirt.

The bodice displays a high level of pattern-making skills. It is observed that the points of measure from bust to waist are well attended to. The juxtaposition of the bustier and the sweeping skirt is conceptually plausible enough.

The red chiffon empanelled black mini dress is another notable design. The red chiffon panels infuse flair to the design. Sewing chiffon is a lot of hard work but she stitched the fabrics pretty well. There are concerns about the attaching points, though, as it is really looking like an afterthought.

In this collection, probably the most directional one is the forest green three-piece outfit. This look has a sexy appeal and is more editorial. The dramatic maxi coat opens on just the one fastening at the bust, making for a deliberate skin reveal. The edges of the miniskirt are braided off.

However, some development is needed in regard to how she supports busts and secures the garments. This collection impacts the visual language signature of the brand by expanding its horizons into an area of bold contrasts, which walk the line of sculptural elements and sensuality.

Summer Bold will cater to fashion-conscious women who indulge in show-stopping evening wear. Summer Bold is an album of beauty, brilliance, and identity. There is yet room for evolution and that is what makes the collection admirable and exciting.
