Ethereal Couture by Twitch Stitches: A Perfect Balance of Bold Prints and Minimalist Silhouettes

The launch of Andrew Amayo’s (the creative director and fashion designer of Twitch Stitches) spectacular collection, “Ethereal Couture,” took place on May 11, 2024, at the African Fashion and Arts Awards (AFAA) in Nairobi.

The collection that was shown on the runway was nothing short of magnificent, and the atmosphere in the room was electric. “Ethereal Couture” was a stunning fusion of modern and tradition. It included vibrant flower prints that were expertly incorporated into simple silhouettes.

Each garment told a tale of modern elegance and cultural pride.
A female model attracted notice for her contemporary interpretation of classic grace.

She wore a fitted white shirt with a red floral motif and a peplum accent at the waist. This ensemble was sophisticated and eye-catching, especially when paired with wide-legged, high-waisted white pants that had the print extended down the sides.

A new take on modern African design was provided by the dynamic silhouette that the structured blouse and flowing pants generated.
A striking shift in the presentation came with another pair of models showcasing a stunning blend of orange, black, and white.

The male model wore another white shirt, this time with an orange floral print on the collar, cuffs, and pocket. His trousers were black, maintaining the minimalistic approach to balance the vivid patterns.

The female model walked beside him in a floor-length white dress with a cinched waist, both featuring the same orange floral pattern. The print on the dress was more elaborate, with intricate swirls and additional patterns on the hem and cuffs, adding depth and texture to the design.

This ensemble highlighted the collection’s ability to blend bold, statement prints with clean, structured silhouettes.

The versatility of the collection was further showcased by a male model who brought a bold statement shirt to life. His white shirt, like the previous one, was adorned with an extensive use of the red floral print, dominating one side of the shirt and extending across the shoulder.

The trousers were black, keeping the focus on the intricate details of the shirt. This design spoke to the modern man’s desire for fashion choices that are both bold and sophisticated, without compromising on either.

A noteworthy appearance was a pair of matching his and hers outfit. The male model wore plain black pants with a spotless white shirt with bright red floral designs on the neck, chest, and sleeves. His female counterpart was dressed elegantly in a white jumpsuit with well-placed floral details on the pant legs and cuffs. The audience was drawn in by the well-balanced and well-coordinated look that the bright designs produced against the stark white fabric. The rest of the collection was inspired by these coordinated his-and-hers looks, which exemplified class and cohesion.
The next piece was a solo female model who embodied the very essence of “Ethereal Couture.” Her outfit, a simple white dress, was striking in its adornment. The red floral print cascaded down from the shoulders, tapering off as it reached the hem. The minimalist silhouette of the dress allowed the bold pattern to take center stage, while the model’s confident stride brought the entire collection to a close.
In another stunning display of coordination, the male and female models showcased a look that reached a crescendo of symmetry and style. The male model wore a white shirt with orange floral prints strategically placed to echo earlier designs, but with slight variations in pattern placement. His female counterpart stunned in a matching outfit—a white blouse with a modest neckline and sleeves adorned with the same orange florals, paired with a full, flowing skirt that reached the floor. The synergy between these two outfits was palpable, demonstrating how couples could wear complementary designs while still maintaining their individuality.
“Ethereal Couture” by Twitch Stitches was not just a fashion collection; it was an artistic expression of cultural identity through modern design. Andrew Amayo masterfully used bold floral prints to create a collection that was cohesive yet diverse, traditional yet contemporary. Each piece stood out on its own while contributing to the overall narrative of unity and elegance. The matching his-and-hers outfits were a particular highlight, showcasing the versatility and timeless appeal of the designs. In a world where fashion often struggles to balance heritage and innovation, “Ethereal Couture” succeeded brilliantly, leaving an indelible mark on the audience and the fashion industry at large.

“Ethereal Couture” by Andrew Amayo is a standout collection that excels in creativity, cultural significance, craftsmanship, marketability, and presentation. It successfully bridges the gap between tradition and modernity, offering pieces that are not only fashion-forward but also deeply rooted in African culture. This collection positions Twitch Switches as a brand that celebrates African heritage while appealing to a global audience, making it a noteworthy contribution to the fashion industry.
