The Lagos Loafer: Itele’s Step Into Global Luxury
By Rita Okoye
For years, Nigerian footwear has carried the weight of tradition — sturdy, familiar, often handcrafted. But Itele Seyi Agboola’s AW24 collection, which made its runway debut at London Fashion Week, is looking beyond tradition. It’s pushing toward something bolder: timeless elegance with export-worthy polish.

These aren’t your uncle’s dress shoes. From patent black slip-ons to structured buckle loafers, the collection signals a new Nigerian ambition, one that moves seamlessly between Eko’s elite gatherings and Milan’s luxury showrooms.
What stands out most is the finish. The leather gleams, the soles are clean, and each pair feels like it belongs in the wardrobe of someone who knows exactly what they want to say and how to say it. There’s intention here, not just aspiration.
Still, a few more playful elements wouldn’t hurt. A surprise color, perhaps. Or a silhouette that subverts the expected. The design integrity is clear, but the storytelling could stretch further.
Regardless, Itele’s vision is undeniable. With this collection, he doesn’t just join the global conversation — he changes its accent.
