Soft Doesn’t Mean Silent: Maria’s Feminine Revolution

By Josephine Agbonkhese

There’s something quietly radical about what Olaitan Maria Olatoke is doing in Bliss and Bloom. In a season dominated by maximalism and logomania, she chose softness. Deliberate, intentional, fearless softness.

The silhouettes whisper rather than shout — yet the message lands loud and clear. Maria wants us to rethink power. Her collection of delicate tulles, off-shoulder gowns, and fluid forms reframes the narrative: feminine doesn’t mean fragile.

Particularly impressive is her use of proportion. Bodices are fitted, but never stiff. Skirts flow without swallowing the wearer. The styling is clean, hair and makeup letting the garments speak. There’s restraint here, but never hesitation.

What could elevate the work further would be more experimentation with colour story or unexpected textural contrasts. A few pieces play it safe. But the potential to surprise is evident.

This collection doesn’t follow trends. It offers a different kind of revolution, one dressed in ivory and intention.
