A Gentle Force of Tradition – Regal Echoes by Joytique Fashion Heritage
By Josephine Agbonkhese
I was invited to a private unveiling of Regal Echoes, the latest collection by Joytique Fashion Heritage, and from the moment I stepped into the softly lit space in Lagos on November 6, 2024, I knew this would be something special.

There was a quiet confidence in the setup. No distractions. Just fabric, light, and elegance. And at the heart of it all was Joy Ogheneynerowo Akindor, the creative director and fashion designer whose vision continues to inspire.
What struck me most was how every outfit carried a different voice, yet all spoke the same refined language. The journey began with a blue two piece set that shimmered from every angle. The blouse featured translucent puff sleeves embellished with beading, and a structured peplum that gave it shape and fluidity. The skirt, long and fitted, echoed the design with elegant beaded lines. A metallic silver head tie and round clutch completed the look, highlighting the thoughtful styling.

Another standout was the bright pink gown adorned with sequin embroidery that traced down the body like waves. The shoulders were crowned with three dimensional roses made of tulle, offering texture and romance. I could not take my eyes off how the light danced across the material. The choice of a pearl choker and radiant smile from the wearer brought this look to life.
In contrast, the rose gold iro and buba set was soft and graceful. The blouse came alive with floral embroidery around the sleeves and chest, while the wrapper shimmered with every step. The use of a large head wrap and statement belt made it feel personal and regal without being overwhelming.
There was also a blush peach lace gown with sheer layers and an all over floral design. I admired how the tone of the lace complemented the inner fabric beneath it, giving the piece a gentle depth. The sleeves flared out just enough to catch attention, and the gold accessories made the entire look feel cohesive and rich.
Finally, there was a multi tone fitted gown covered in intricate sequin work that formed an organic leaf like pattern. The colours were so well blended, from muted teals to earthy reds, creating a visual texture that felt alive. It closed the collection with quiet strength and confidence.
Joy Ogheneynerowo Akindor has a gift for curating timeless fashion that celebrates the beauty of cultural identity. Regal Echoes does not try to be loud. It simply exists as it is—elegant, assured, and deeply rooted in storytelling. It was an honour to witness it firsthand.
