The 5th edition of the Dawalk Fashion Show, themed ‘Fashion and Fantasy,’ held on October 20th, 2024, made for an unforgettable experience in Abuja with the captivating debut of the Leading Light Collection, meticulously crafted by Michelle Elohor Apuede, the creative designer of the fashion brand Jemimas Fashion.

Far beyond a traditional runway event, the evening unfolded as a canvas for imagination and creativity with Michelle’s collection, which emerged like a beacon, captivating the audience with its fresh wave of elegance and artistry.

The collection was a testament to the beauty of bold creativity and meticulous craftsmanship. It reflects Michelle’s creative brilliance and is a tribute to the beauty of African culture.

Drawing from a palette of diverse fabrics, Michelle used a blend of luxurious fabrics like Adire Ankara, Adire Kampala, Mikado, wool, sequins, and lace.

The collection presents pieces that cater to both casual and formal styles. With each piece, Michelle brought forth a collection that told a story—one of new visions, colours, dimensions, and values. It was a journey that celebrated individuality while embracing cultural roots.
The collection featured a stunning lineup of versatile pieces, including two-piece sets, structured dresses, jackets, high-waist trousers, high-waist skirts, tops, and gowns with intricate embellishments.

Each piece carried Michelle’s signature touch—bold, beautiful, and meticulously crafted—designed to make anyone stand out confidently and elegantly.

As the lights dimmed and the music began, models took center stage, gliding effortlessly across the runway in pieces that reflected Michelle’s meticulous attention to detail. The flow of fabrics, the richness of colours, and the striking silhouettes brought the Leading Light Collection to life in the most enchanting way.
The runway was awash with hues of deep purples, vibrant prints, and shimmering textures that captured the audience’s attention instantly.

One of the standout pieces was the vibrant Adire two-piece set. This ensemble embraced traditional African heritage, with its flowing silhouette and intricate patterns. Michelle’s rich use of Adire Ankara added a cultural depth, while the modern tailoring allowed for a fresh, wearable design. The piece struck the perfect balance between tradition and contemporary appeal, making it suitable for a casual yet stylish statement.

Another highlight was the structured Mikado dress, detailed with bold textures and clean lines, which turned heads with its daring confidence. This piece and others in the collection pieces not only showcased Michelle’s skill but also delivered on the “Fashion and Fantasy” theme, blurring the lines between tradition and modernity.

One beautiful thing about these collection pieces is that they have what it takes to make one elegantly stand out, looking bold and beautiful.

The Leading Light Collection featured several versatile separates that encouraged creativity in styling. One can easily pair high-waist skirts or trousers with fitted tops and also pair structured gowns with embellished jackets; the collection allows wearers to mix and match pieces to suit different occasions.

This adaptability reflected Michelle’s understanding of the modern fashion lover’s need for dynamic, functional outfits.

The runway pieces were nothing short of breathtaking, leaving the audience in awe. The collection was met with resounding applause and admiration from fashion lovers, critics, and media alike.

The room buzzed with excitement as each design graced the runway. Many were captivated by the unique blend of cultural fabrics and contemporary tailoring, describing Michelle’s work as a “breath of fresh air,” paving a unique path in the world of fashion.

Fashion enthusiasts applauded the versatility of the collection, noting how the mix-and-match pieces could transition seamlessly from casual to formal wear.

Media representatives also praised Michelle’s use of vibrant colours and cultural prints, calling the collection “a celebration of African heritage with a modern twist.”

Critics also highlighted Michelle’s impeccable craftsmanship, particularly the intricate details on the gowns and the structured silhouettes that exuded power and grace, underscoring Michelle’s technical skills and her ability to redefine style with pieces that tell a story.

With each piece, it was evident that Michelle didn’t just design outfits; she crafted experiences—pieces that would make anyone feel bold, beautiful, and ready to conquer the world.

Michelle’s vision for the collection to celebrate individuality, diversity, and inclusivity was evident throughout this collection. From statement pieces to versatile separates, the collection had something for everyone, encouraging wearers to mix and match with confidence.

Jemimas Fashion truly delivered a spotlight on excellence. The collection reflected not only the designer’s creative brilliance but also her understanding of what it means to craft pieces that empower and inspire. It’s no surprise that the audience was captivated and drawn into a world where fantasy met reality in the most enchanting way.

As the curtains closed at the Dawalk Fashion Show, one thing was certain: the Leading Light Collection didn’t just shine—it blazed a trail. Michelle Elohor Apuede has truly illuminated the path for what fashion can and should be—a perfect harmony of tradition and contemporary vision.
