The AFAA Runway Showcase 2024, held on November 7th in Cape Town, South Africa, reached new heights with the unveiling of “Asteria Apparel,” the latest collection from Mondolla, helmed by the visionary fashion designer and creative director, Monday Fasuyi.

This stunning collection celebrated artistry, structure, and the fusion of cultural heritage with modern sophistication, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

The collection’s name, “Asteria,” inspired by the Titan goddess of the stars in Greek mythology, perfectly encapsulated the divine elegance and celestial charm displayed on the runway. Each piece was a testament to creativity and craftsmanship, blending bold innovation with refined beauty to tell a unique story.
The show opened with a breathtaking deep-blue gown that set the tone for the evening. The floor-length silhouette featured a daring thigh-high slit and a sculpted bodice that accentuated the model’s form. Cascading ruffles on the dramatic long sleeves added an element of theatricality, while the shimmering fabric evoked the brilliance of a starlit sky. A structured neckline paired with a bold, avant-garde hairstyle completed the look, making it a standout moment of the evening and a showcase of Fasuyi’s extraordinary design sensibilities.

A gold lace jumpsuit followed, radiating luxury and sophistication. Delicate floral embroidery highlighted the designer’s meticulous attention to detail, while the fitted silhouette and playful ruffled neckline struck a harmonious balance between elegance and charm. This design exemplified Mondolla’s dedication to creating wearable luxury, brought to life by the model’s confident stride.

The menswear look presented a flowing agbada ensemble in a muted golden tone, an homage to African heritage with a contemporary twist. Subtle embroidery and understated textures gave the outfit depth and sophistication, elevating traditional attire to a global standard while maintaining its cultural authenticity.

Another standout design was a rich burgundy jumpsuit with intricate golden embroidery, complemented by sheer black sleeves for contrast. The structured fit exuded strength and confidence, while the fine details and precision craftsmanship elevated the look into a bold statement piece, effortlessly merging classic elegance with modern flair.

A cobalt blue cocktail dress shimmered under the runway lights, captivating the audience with its playful yet refined design. Layers of tulle at the hem added movement and dimension, while sheer sleeves and a high neckline brought a fresh, contemporary touch. The thoughtful layering of textures showcased Fasuyi’s ability to blend sophistication with fun, creating a look that felt both timeless and modern.
The final look of the evening was a golden gown that mesmerized the audience with its asymmetric fringed detailing and dynamic flow. A combination of lace and textured fabric gave the gown a regal, ethereal quality, while balloon sleeves added a touch of vintage drama. Embellishments were strategically placed to enhance the gown’s elegance, capturing the light with every step and telling a powerful story of cultural pride and empowerment.

With “Asteria Apparel,” Monday Fasuyi cemented Mondolla’s reputation as a brand with global aspirations. This collection was a celebration of innovation, culture, and elegance, marking a defining moment in the AFAA Runway Showcase 2024. It not only highlighted Mondolla’s potential as a leader in contemporary African fashion but also positioned the brand as a rising force on the international stage.
