Saint Jude’s Anglican Primary School Alumni reunites for thanksgiving

…plans to give back to alma mater

The I968, ’73 and ’74 sets of Old student’s Association of Saint Jude’s Anglican Primary School, Ebute Meta Lagos recently held a thanksgiving service to mark 50 years of leaving the school.

The event which took place at the school’s premises in Ebute Meta, Lagos presented an opportunity for members to see one another after five decades, and to deliberate on how to give back to their alma mater.

Speaking at the event, one of the members, Mr. Adeola Adelanwa lauded the members for considering it ideal for them to gather and celebrate in such capacity.

He was optimistic that the reunion idea, which was conceived five years ago, would bring transformation in the school.

Lamenting high level of indiscipline among the young ones in the society, he said: “In our own time, there was discipline. It is not like now where parents would want to quarrel with the teacher who disciplines their wards.’’

While admonishing teachers to discipline pupils with care, he advised parents not to be offended when their wards are disciplined for wrong doing.

He also frowned at parents and guardians who would want to push their children to higher class so that they will pass out of the school earlier than their mates.

According to him, such rush is not necessary as it may negatively affect the child in the future.

In his words: “Why the rush, if you look at those who brought education to us, they go to school, year one, year two and so on, they believed that a child should be in a class at a particular age.’’

Similarly, another member of the association, Pastor (Mrs.) Omolara Sangowawa lauded the members for being present at the thanksgiving, describing the event as a fun-filled celebration which brought joy and fulfillment in the lives of the members who came from across the state.

The event was rounded off with a reception which held at Bishop Adekunle Howells Memorial Church, Surulere.

About 50 members were present.
