Qumbie Couture’s Afromod Tote Series: A Bold Blend of Culture and Style

Qumbie Couture’s AfromMod Tote Series, led by Creative Director Bukola Ajibade, offers a bold take on African-inspired fashion accessories. These tote bags combine vibrant Ankara prints with solid fabrics, creating striking contrasts that celebrate African culture through contemporary design. The use of geometric and abstract patterns in bright colours like pink, orange, and yellow adds a lively, pan-African aesthetic that stands out in a global market often dominated by uniform styles.

The brand’s strength lies in its confident visual storytelling and attention to detail in
craftsmanship. AfromMod Tote bags show precise stitching and well-formed shapes that balance style with everyday use.

Craftsmanship: A Developing Discipline

The craftsmanship, though promising, is not yet consistent. There are notes of excellence, neat stitching, symmetry, thoughtful patchwork, but also lapses in finish that undermine the overall impact. Clean interior linings, reinforced handles, and edge control would dramatically elevate the collection.

Also, some design elements need refinement. For instance, the small Ankara patch placement can feel awkward, and certain structural features, like handles and linings, lack the robustness expected for long-term durability. These issues suggest that function sometimes takes a backseat to visual impact, which may limit appeal among consumers seeking both beauty and practicality.

Presentation: A Visual Story Still in Progress

Photography and styling also warrant refinement. The product shots are functional but not yet professional. Lighting, wardrobe styling, and high-resolution imagery could be used more strategically to position the brand for international exposure. The bags deserve a stronger visual narrative, one that tells their story with the same confidence that they tell ours

Conclusion
In conclusion, to strengthen its international presence, Qumbie Couture should focus on improving finishing touches and enhancing product functionality without compromising its powerful creative vision. Elevating craftsmanship standards and refining design details will help the brand compete in premium markets. Overall, while the collection is not yet flawless, it offers a distinct and meaningful contribution to African fashion narratives, positioning Qumbie Couture as a promising player in the global accessory scene.
