UNSCRIPTED: WOMEN’S TRUTHS
By Adesuwa Ewoigbokhan
In a world where expectations often outweigh empathy, women speaking their truth in marriage are breaking their silence on domestic violence and emotional abuse.
This often includes breaking the silence and resisting peers and family pressure to maintain a facade of a perfect, unhappy union.
Yet, they are met with resistance, facing a lack of support from those who should be their allies– other women.

Societal and cultural norms, and even family, often dismiss complaints and pressure women to be docile and submissive. Instead, they are pressured to be patient and endure, making it harder to speak out against abuse.
Women are taught to prioritise family harmony over personal well-being, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.
Religion and community can be double-edged swords, perpetuating patriarchal norms or promoting inequality and injustice.
Other women may resist or not support those speaking out due to fear, internalised patriarchy, personal bitterness, jealousy, or strict adherence to traditional roles. However, women are finding strength in their voices, sharing stories, supporting each other, and demanding change.
True sisterhood lies in solidarity and collective action. It’s time to listen without judgment, believe their stories, and amplify their voices.
The change starts with us. We must create a culture where women feel empowered to speak out without fear, supported and uplift one another, celebrating our strengths and vulnerabilities.
By doing so, we break the silence and create a world where women live without fear of abuse. This journey requires resilience, courage, and unity.
When women come together, share stories, and support each other, they become unstoppable, challenging societal norms and demanding justice.
On a final note, speaking out requires courage, but it’s crucial for healing and empowerment.
Women must break the silence, support each other, and demand change. Together, we create a world where women live with dignity, respect, and justice.
The power to change starts within us!
