The Well-Groomed Man: Small Details That Make a Big Difference
By Josephine Agbonkhese
Good grooming isn’t about vanity. It’s about paying attention to the details that quietly say, “I take care of myself.”
There is something effortlessly attractive about a man who looks well put together. It may not be the most expensive outfit or the trendiest haircut. Sometimes, it is simply clean skin, neatly trimmed facial hair, fresh breath, tidy nails and a fragrance that lingers just enough.

Being well-groomed does not require spending hours in front of the mirror. Neither does it mean turning your bathroom into a beauty store. It is about mastering the basics and making them part of your everyday routine.
Start with your skin
Your face deserves more than a quick splash of water in the morning. Use a gentle facial cleanser to remove sweat, oil and dirt, followed by a moisturiser that suits your skin type. And yes, sunscreen belongs in every man’s skincare routine. Daily sun protection helps protect the skin from sun damage and premature ageing.
Then, take care of that beard
Whether you have a full beard, a moustache or prefer a clean-shaven face, the key word is neatness. Keep facial hair clean and trimmed, paying attention to the neckline and areas around the cheeks. If your beard feels dry or coarse, a little beard oil or conditioner can make it softer and more manageable.
Your haircut matters too
You do not need an elaborate hairstyle to look good. A clean, well-maintained haircut that suits your face and lifestyle can instantly sharpen your appearance. But remember that your scalp needs care as much as your hair does. Persistent itching, flakes or excessive dryness should not simply be hidden under styling products.
And then there are the small details men sometimes overlook—hands, nails and feet. Clean, trimmed nails may seem insignificant, but they contribute greatly to an overall polished appearance. The same goes for dry, cracked hands. A little moisturiser can make a noticeable difference.
Finally, smell good—but don’t overdo it.
A pleasant fragrance should complement you, not overpower everyone around you. Apply your cologne sparingly to pulse points and let it become part of your signature.
