18-year-old girl who suffers from rare genetic disorder marks birthday with South African president

An 18-year-old girl known as  Ontlametse Phalatse suffers from a rare genetic condition that accelerates the body’s aging process.

Even though, it was projected that she would not live passed the age of 13,  she has defiled all expectations and celebrated her 18th birthday with the South African President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria on Thursday, March 23.

Despite her condition, Ontlametse was lively and infected guests with her charming personality during the meeting with the President. She also proudly declared that she is the first black child with

.

She said:

”I call myself a first lady because I’m the first black child with this disease. Which other black child do you know with this disease?”

President Zuma was indeed  moved by Ontlametse’s story and personality. At her birthday celebration, he said:

”She is so bubbly and articulate, a clear indication that she doesn’t feel pity for herself. I must say I am really inspired by her attitude and fighting spirit.”
