Health benefit of basil (scent leaf)

Though basil is used as vegetable for cooking, there are some health benefits of basil.

Basil is a herb belonging to the mint family which is used cooking.

It is a great compliment to tomatoes and mixes greatly with gloves, garlic and onion to give your meal and enticing aroma.

Basil is popularly called scent leaf in Nigeria. The ibos calls it NCHANWA, The yoruba’s calls it EFINRIN and the hausa’s calls it DAIDOYA.

Scent leaf stimulates the appetite and helps curbs flatulence.

This leaf is rich in vitamin C for healthy skin, vitamin A for great sight, Vitamin K for strong bones and manganese.

Some Health Benefits Of Basil

1. Scent leave aids digestion: individuals who experience indigestion are advised to use Scent leave as it enables bowel evacuation and this manages weight.

2.Used in treating Oral infection ; Sometimes you may find your mouth all smelly no matter how hard you brush, scent leaf can help cure bad breathe and kills bacteria in the mouth.

3. Treats fever / Cold ; Basil contains antipyretic which helps to treat cold or fever, the most effective way us to boil the leaf and sip like a tea

4. Treats Cough ; When you have cough, extracting the water from scent leaf and taking it at interval will help relieve cough.

5.scent leaf helps to cure inflammation and sore throat.

Apart from all this health benefits of basil , it is used in cooking delicacies like rice, plantain and stew.
