A new comic series titled ”Anikulapo” based on the Afrobeat act, Seun Kuti, son of the legend, Fela Kuti is now out.

Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti extended his character to the world of comics as he battles corruption in the just released series ‘Anikulapo: Voice of The Orisha’.

According to the main edition; Seun Anikulapo Kuti kidnaps the son of the President and enlists him in the revolution. A military strike team is sent to Anikulapo’s home. Violence and mayhem ensue. The story however sounds similar to the incidence in 1977, when Fela Kuti’s haven, the Kalakuta Republic, was ransacked by soldiers.

According to Vortex Comics, the publisher of the comic series;

“Anikulapo: Voice of The Orisha’ is “an “R” Rated comic book which focuses on the story of Anikulapo III, a spirit summoner who can call upon the ancient deities (Orisha) through his music. He uses this ability to combat corrupt governance, social evils and his arch enemy, Baba General who happens to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Anikulapo, the character who considers it his duty and responsibility to fight corrupt politicians with any means at his disposal, has seven wives who help him on his mission. His wives use Nguni and Calinda (old African fighting techniques) to help Anikulapo make Nigeria a better place.

The founder and creative director of Vortex Comics, Somto Ajuluchukwu said that the comic  seeks to preach revolution, change and political-socio-economic freedom that is expected to bring a certain level of consciousness to the youth and adults alike.
