By Ebuka Uzonwanne,

It is of great importance to leave a good first impression at any occasion and what you wear says alot about who you are.

However, putting together an outfit for an occasion is not child’s play as there are lots of factors to consider. First of all, you need to know what kind of event you are to attend,  as this helps you know what is expected of you.

The following information below would guide you to buying or finding in your closet what is typically worn to an occasion, which by now you should know what kind of event it is.

DATE NIGHT

A date night can come in different forms, it could be; A dinner date, the movies, or a party. You want to look great without looking like you are trying too hard.

DINNER DATE

One can go for a two piece suit as you would be perceived as classy and smart. For the lady, a dress, good shoes and accessories, would do as you would come off classy and stylish.

THE MOVIES

A pair of jean, bots, T-shirt and a leather jacket would leave you looking effortlessly casual and smart.

For the lady, a sleeveless top, a pair of jeans and heels, glammed up with accessories, gives you and edgy yet classy and casual look to the movies.

WEDDING aka OWAMBE

The wedding party! Aso ebi is usually a go to but in a case where one is a guest you want to take note of the colour of the day and dress accordingly so you don’t look off. You could go for a western look with a two piece suit and may be a tie. You could also go for a traditional outfit, a well-tailored senator suit, or an African three piece suit aka agbada.

JOB INTERVIEW

This is a day you really want to make a good first impression. Suits are standard outfits to wear for a job interview, one can never go wrong in this. However, there are few appropriate alternatives that one can choose from, in a field where a suit is not absolutely necessary. In a creative filed like Web designing, long sleeve shirt, a waist coat, a pair of jean and  sneakers of your choice, would show you has a good sense of style.

MEETING THE PARENTS

You don’t what to look like you are trying too hard to impress, but you don’t want to come off to them as carefree either. A well-tailored senator suit and a good pair of well-crafted palm slippers, gives a simple yet pulled together look (for the culture). One could also go for a polo, jean and a pair of loafers to give that sense of casual yet smart look.

In conclusion, it is important that you know what the occasion is, as there is an outfit for every occasion, try on different outfit and find one that suits the occasion.
