How to spiritually connect with your spouse this Easter

Connection in marriage could be described as that deep affinity, that is felt by two different individual.

It goes far beyond superficial personality traits, likes, dislikes or shared interests. Instead, it is about sharing the same fundamental values, life goals, belief systems, as well as dreams.

Couples who indulge in this act, will always meet one another on the same vibration wave level, and will be able to share everything as partners.

Every couple desires meaningful relationship; be it with family, friends, colleagues or an intimate one. Getting that unique being who will be a best friend, as well as a soul mate and who can bridge the gap of everything in between, could really be one of life fulfilling experiences any one can have.

Though cultivating that perfect relationship with the right partner is not often an easy feat, however, this kind of friendship rooted in a spiritual connection, have the tendency of survival and satisfaction.

This is because it is bonded through their spiritual beliefs and practices. It has often been taught by different religious bodies that if marriages were established in, and built upon spiritual connection, the union would be able to endure any kind of challenges.

Thus, it was encouraged or required in some situations that people marry within the same religion. Till today, many cultures and customs still abide by these age long traditions while others have since done away with the practice in favour of their freedom to choose a spouse, irrespective of their belief system or faith.

Quite a number of couples are recognizing the presence of a spiritual practice in any lasting wedlock.

So creating a spiritual connection with your spouse is not about indoctrinating them in to believing what you believe, nor is it about changing your spouse to be more spiritual, both of which could affect your relationship.

Rather, it is about deepening the soul contact between the two of you, thereby shifting focus away from yourself into a more open space that enables you to think about how you can be best to one another, in order to achieve your full potential.

But in reaching this level, both of you would have been in some kind of spiritual commitment with yourselves: first with spiritual connection by becoming open, vulnerable, engaged, attentive and receptive to your significant other.

More importantly is the fact that, you connecting spiritually with your partner also helps you to create more love and longevity.

Beneath are ways you can deepen your spiritual connection with your man/woman.

-More of eye contact encourages intimacy. Note that eye contact do not only connote respect, it is also the best way to connect with another person’s soul. Remember the word soul gazing –‘’Soul gazing is based on the premise that you can bathe in the waters of another person’s soul through gazing into their eyes.’’

Life most times, can get quite busy for one to have energy to nurture a relationship. It is imperative that you set aside time each day out of your tight schedule to exclusively sit with your loved one. W watching a movie in each other’s arms on the couch is a good start in connecting spiritually.

Having a spiritual connection is about learning how to spiritually grow in your marriage. Even. if not done consciously, your spouse’s words, behaviour and thoughts, could actually teach you more than you think. As our better half often sees our weak points and blind spots, so can easily reveal a lot to you about yourself even unintentionally.

Do more of touching, especially as physical touch is very fundamental in creating a spiritual connection.

That subtle energy that is exchanged through touching is very binding: in the sense that it helps to create a deeper affinity with your man/woman. Physical touch could actually be soothing, comforting and can often express much more than words.

Have regular positive and meaningful conversation with your partner. Start a conversation during your morning walks.

Share whatever is on your mind and do find a regular place and time to do that.
Laughter opens the heart and deepens your spiritual connection, so find ways to laugh together.

Also, learn how to laugh at yourself, your spouse and together with each other in a light- hearted manner. You can also deepen your relation by watching funny movies together.

Quite a number of disconnected relationships lack open, effective and intentional communication, which is the ability to express your thoughts with feelings of honesty while respecting the other person.

Psychologist, Marshall Rosenberg, calls this ‘’non-violent communication’’. So whenever you are feeling hurt, angry, isolated or any other kind of emotion, express your feelings since not even your mate can read your mind. So, don’t conclude.

Openly communicating your feeling is the foundation of an honest and true relationship based on mutual caring, respect and love.

Learn to love yourself without which you will struggle to unconditionally love your loved one. Practicing self love means accepting all the light and darkness within you. you would have deepened your spiritual connection with your spouse as true change comes from within. So if you are interested in wanting your marital life to get richer, then you first have to make your relationship with yourself richer.

Let go of the past hurts by forgiving. Holding on to grudges of wrongdoings is a surefire way to destroy any relationship. The more you hold on to grievances, the more isolated and distant you will feel from your better half.

Try to make space to let go and open your heart to forgiveness. It is possible you may need to openly communicate how you feel to your partner in a respectful and a non- violent way to seek enclosure.
