Some children are be resuming school for the first time today and it can be hard for both the parent and the child.

Not to worry, below are some simple tips by Jane Aguoye of Fabmum.ng to help you easily manage this emotional situation and also ensure that your children are safe and comfortable in their new environment.

Read her tips below

If your child is starting sch for the first time, when you drop him/her at sch on Monday, familiarise yourself with the new teacher, cleaners, school bus driver (if possible ) etc get their phone numbers because it will come in very handy.

If you have certain concerns about your child (e.g Picky eater, allergies, behavioral or potty training), ask to see the new teacher & discuss your concerns with her. Find out lunch time, potty training etc just so you are in the know.

Have you gone on a tour of the new school and class? You really should. Check out facilities; ask questions like security, first aid, teacher to child ratio, teaching style etc.

Have you adjusted your child sleep & wake up time? From tonight, adjust the timing so your child’s body clock starts getting used to it. Get the school uniforms, bags, shoes, socks, panties, singlet, food flask, water bottle ready for Monday.

Readjusting the sleep &wake up time can be challenging. Parents are encouraged to set a strict bedtime and stick to it. It is also advised to have kids put away all electronics (especially the TV) at least 2 hours before bedtime.
