Just as the name implies, bitter kola is most certainly bitter but if you can adjust your taste buds accordingly and ingest, you are sure to enjoy its nutritional values such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamin B1, C and E, sodium and potassium. Also boasting of numerous health benefits which include:
Cold and fever remedy: Its anti-bacterial properties help in relieving you from fever, sore throats, congestions and symptoms of cold and catarrh.
Prevention from glaucoma: Especially at times like this in which we spend most of our time in front of screens, thereby putting pressure on our eyes, chances of developing glaucoma is pretty high.
Male fertility: Studies have shown that bitter kola sometimes cures impotency by boosting up a man’s performance.
Weight loss: Bitter kola can also be a natural appetite suppressant thereby, increasing your urge to drink water
.
🌰 Anti-poison: Saponin found in the bark and skin is used as a liver tonic, assisting in gall bladder functions and detoxification of the human body during food poisoning.
Same as all things taken in excess, when the rate of consumption of bitter kola is high, it could lead to nausea and stomach upset, insomnia, increased sex drive and irregular heartbeat. Therefore, we need to cautious with our consumption.
