Parenting :5 common teenage girl problems

June 9,2020
Share:

Teenage girl problems are completely unavoidable but with guidance it becomes a lot easier.

Teenage age is the time your teens try to figure out so many things going on in their life, the body changes, happenings, education, independency and so many other.

These little things might sometimes overwhelm your teen if you fail to pay close attention.

Teenage age is full of so many exciting and saddening phases, a time when there are so many ‘first time’.

Guiding your teenage child through this phase is important to the woman they become.

5 common teenage girl problems

There are so many problems the teenage girl encounters, some of them are, peer pressure, appearance, dating, friendship, menstruation and so many others.

1. Appearance :

Starting puberty comes with so much changes in the voice, body shapes and so much others.

These changes makes her worried as she has to continuously try to cope with and accept it.

With the media and peers painting a perfect figure, she is left devastated if she’s no where close to those.

Solution

Teaching your teenage girl how best to cope with these changes while making her understand that the ‘perfect figure’ is only but a fad will help her in accepting her body just the way it is.

2. Friendship/Peer Pressure

In other to get accepted by peers, teenage girls tend to behave in a certain way just to belong.

This makes them do things they might not like or adopt behaviors that are off their personality.

Solutions

  • Make her understand that it’s OK to have different view with her peers or friends.
  • Let her know that her views, choices and believes makes up who she is and what she becomes.
  • Explain to her what peer pressure is and how best to avoid or handle it.

3. Self – Esteem

So many things are new to  your teenage daughter at this age and most times she’s forced to want to compare her self, body shapes with others.

This can be really overwhelming and pressuring for her and plays a damaging effect on her self esteem.

Solution

  • Encourage her to indulge in things she lives rather than what others are doing.
  • Make her understand her uniqueness is her selling point, the earlier she embraces it, the better she’d become.

4. Menstruation:

This is one of the first she will experience as she enters the menstruation phase. It’s a big change she will have to get used to and know how best to handle it.

Solutions

  • Explain and make her understand how the menstrual cycle works.
  • Teach her how to count her cycle and be sure she takes it as an absolutely natural occurrence
  • Discuss everything about her menstruation with her. Make sure she carries an extra pad with her at all time. This will save her greatly from embarrassing situations.

5. Dating :

Having crushes is something that is absolutely normal but over time, she might fall in love with that crush.

With the increase in secretion of sex hormones, these teenagers might get romantically involved.

Solutions

  • Discuss dating and sex with her so she’s well informed.
  • Make her understand that it’s OK to  say no to sex.
  • Teach how how she can stay save as you might not be able to control all she does in her relationship.

It’s really fun and challenging being a teenager but with proper guidance from parenting, she will be just fine.

As a parent it’s OK to be available for a chitchat with her, make her comfortable to actually discuss these things with you.
