If you’re in an abusive relationship, talk to your family, authorities – Pst David Adeoye

Pastor David Adeoye, the founder of Royalty Christian Centre, has said anyone who is in a relationship where you are being beaten and abused, to speak up, to her family and the authorities about it.

He noted that it is better to be single and be alive than to die or become disabled in an abusive marriage.

Addressing the rising trend in cases of domestic violence in an Instagram post, Adeoye chided Christians who hide behind the bible verse: “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Who told you it is God that joined all couples together? He asked.

The architect-turned pastor noted that it is foolish for any woman to think marriage comes first, and life comes after. Rather, one needs to be alive to remain married.

“If you are in an abusive relationship, you need to pause and fix it, if it’s possible, before thinking of going ahead with the relationship (marriage). If you continue and die or become disabled, it’s not satan- it’s your foolishness and stupidity that is responsible.” He said.

Here is his post:

“Domestic violence on the increase in our days.

If you are in a relationship where you are being beaten and abused, you better talk to your family and the authorities about it. YOU NEED TO BE ALIVE TO REMAIN MARRIED.

“Between Marriage and Life, which one comes first? Many women think Marriage comes first, while Life comes after- that is foolishness and stupidity mixed together.

“If you are in an abusive relationship, you need to Pause and fix it, if it’s possible, before thinking of going ahead with the relationship (marriage). If you continue and die or become disabled, it’s not satan- it’s your foolishness and stupidity that is responsible.

“I know a lot of ignorant Christians will come after me, but I am fine by that. Life is about the choice you make (Deut.30:19).

“Some ignorant Christian quote “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Who told you it is God that joined all couples together?

It’s better to be single and be alive than to die or become disabled in an abusive marriage. I think we clergy (both Christians and Muslims) must teach our congregation this, over and over again. That means we all must not be spouse-abusers/beaters.

If you die or get disabled in a marriage and make Heaven, you’ll be shocked how God will react to your poor decisions.

“In fact, if you are in a relationship/marriage, where your spouse tells you “I will slap or beat you” whenever he/she is angry 😤, you must Pause and fix the brokenness in your relationship before thinking of whether to continue or discontinue.

“Parents who tell their children to go back to an abusive relationship are perpetrators of evil. They take this kind of stand because of “tradition” or the fear of what people will say. Many have lost their children to abusive marriages/relationships, because of unhealthy tolerance.

Our society should please stop over-rating Marriage. I know Marriage is a beautiful thing, but that’s when it is without abuse. It’s not just about being married, it’s about being happy.
