Betty Irabor reflects on the many lessons of 2020

November 2,2020
Share:

Founder of Genevieve magazine, Betty Irabor has been reflecting of the never-to-forgotten lessons that the year 2020 has thought her.

For her, though the year started with big dreams, high hopes and set goals of many travels and adventures, however, all these have not come to be. Rather, the year has turned out to be a year of deeper reflections and introspection.

In a post on Instagram on Monday, she narrated how like many ladies, with many shoes, clothes and bags littering every available space in her closet, yet she never finds anything to wear when she has to honour an invitation.

She also lamented how in the last nine months, she hasn’t dressed up about five times as pyjamas and loose kaftan have been her outfits of the day(s).

In whatever they may be going through, she urged her followers not to give up. Rather, they keep their head high up, freely express every emotion, and embrace the healing when it begins to manifest.

She wrote: “Whatever you’re going through, please don’t give up…keep your head high up in the face of every tribulation…Freely Express every emotion, don’t hold back but please embrace the healing when it begins to manifest.

“Like many ladies, I love clothes and my bursting closet is a testimony to that! Shoes are stacked one on top another for lack of space, while bags litter every available space…Yet I never find anything to wear when I have to honour an invitation….

“Who can relate?

“Then 2020 taught us so many lessons that most of us may never forget. It taught us not to depend solely on our own strength. It amplified what we have always casually bandied around that “Man proposes while God disposes”

“In the last 9 months I have dressed up about 5 times while my pyjamas and loose kaftan have been my outfits of the day (s).

“To think I was already pulling up clothes in February for my many travels and adventures in 2020… Haha.

“So far I have worn proper shoes less than 5 times since march. Everytime I look at my closet I am reminded of how things have changed…

“Things that once mattered suddenly dont matter that much as survival becomes the only thing that counts…

“Life is so fickle; we are here today and gone tomorrow…

“Just look at how many people lost their lives this year alone and the number of persons displaced….

“You can hardly celebrate a win without feeling a sense of guilt…

“2020 was supposed to be THE YEAR. We had big dreams and set goals; but it turned out to be a year of deeper reflections and introspection. The year taught us to count our blessings and appreciate life more.

“It taught us that what matters most is the preservation of humanity… we were gradually forgetting what it means to be human.

“But the year is not over. I believe in God of last minute who never fails to meet us at the various points of our needs.

“Whatever you’re going through, please don’t give up…keep your head high up in the face of every tribulation…Freely Express every emotion, don’t hold back but please embrace the healing when it begins to manifest.

“Take time to also celebrate those achievements that seem so insignificant right now.

“May this November be a turning point for us.

“May we end the year standing on higher ground …🙏🙏🙏”
