The Best and Worst Foods for Stomach Ulcers

April 30,2021
Share:

Stomach ulcers (also known as gastric ulcers) are open sores on the stomach lining. They’re a kind of peptic ulcer, which means they’re acid-related. They are often excruciatingly painful due to the amount of acid contained in the stomach and the injury that will result.

There are certain things you can avoid and others that may help you manage a stomach ulcer.

Worst:

  1. Ulcer

To cure ulcers, doctors used to advise patients to drink milk. That was before better treatments, such as acid-blocking medications, were available. We now realize that milk can not either prevent or treat an ulcer. In reality, it can aggravate the situation by causing your stomach to produce more acid.

2. Alcohol

It’s safer to restrict or stop drinking whether you’re vulnerable to ulcers or even have one. According to studies, alcohol irritates and even damages the digestive tract. It can aggravate ulcers.

3. Foods high in fat

They take longer to process, which can cause bloating and inflammation in the stomach, which is bad news if you have an ulcer. Take a break from them if they make your stomach feel worse.

4. Citrus Fruits:

It can seem intuitive that acidic foods such as citrus and tomatoes will aggravate ulcers. However, there is no conclusive proof that they have an effect on them. However, we all respond to foods differently, so if acidic foods aggravate your ulcer, avoid them.

5. Caffeine

The evidence on whether caffeine, specifically coffee, cause ulcers worse is mixed. Even then, if you have one, it’s always common wisdom to get rid of it. Consult the doctor, but you do not need to stop drinking coffee if your symptoms do not worsen.

Best:

  1. Foods High in Fiber

Apples, pears, oatmeal, and other high-fibre diets are beneficial against ulcers in two respects. Fibre can help relieve bloating and discomfort by lowering the level of acid in your stomach. A high-fibre diet has also been found to help avoid ulcers in studies.

2. Sweet Potatoes

It contains a lot of vitamin A, which has been shown to help heal and avoid stomach ulcers. Spinach, carrots, cantaloupe, and beef liver are several other foods that are high in vitamin A.

3. Bell Pepper

It’s high in vitamin C, which can aid in the prevention of ulcers in a variety of ways. Vitamin C, for example, is important for wound healing. Ulcers are more common in people who don’t get enough. This vitamin can also be used in citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwis, and broccoli.
