Lagosians have been advised to take their health more seriously by going for regular body checks, so as to detect ailments that may be lurking in the body before it worsens.

This advice was given by Hon. Mrs. Fauziyah Usman – Adeyemi, Founder of Shikem Foundation, while addressing residents of Agege community, Lagos State, who presented themselves for a free medical checkup and treatments.

No fewer than 500 men and women benefitted from the free medical services at the event, which took place at the Arabic & Islamic Training Center, Agege.

Some of the tests conducted at the event include; blood pressure, Kidney test, blood sugar, tuberculosis among others.

Hon. Adeyemi, who is the Arewa Lagos state Woman Leader, advised those who were present to ensure they check their vitals, which include, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol level, regularly.

She also stressed the importance of eating healthy and well-balanced diets, as this provides important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to keep the body and mind strong and healthy.

“You need to check your body, ensure you eat a balanced diet regularly. It is not until you have a fever that you will be checking your body; see your doctor from time to time, even if it is once a month. It is not only the car that needs servicing, our bodies too need that, we need to check our blood pressure and watch what we eat.

Adeyemi revealed that many of those who were checked had blood pressures that is beyond normal, and this signifies danger, as if not checked and managed appropriately could spell doom for the person.

“Many of those we’ve attended to here today, have high blood pressure, and they’ve been walking on the road and without knowing that they are walking dead. This is not supposed to be. Some of them have high cholesterol level and they still go about indulging in foods that are high in fat.

“It is unfortunate that people don’t have time for their health. That is why we see a lot of people die because they don’t check themselves and people around will think it is witches or wizards that kill them.

“A lot of people checked their cars and did not check their bodies. It is not only car that need servicing most people prefer to check their cars than their body most people in this country that have money check their cars more than their body, they buy fuel, buy oil in their cars without taking care of their body,”

Some of the beneficiaries that spoke thanked the foundation for bringing the services to their community. According to them, they have not only benefited from the tests, the talks they listened t was also an eye-opener to them.
