Memoires from Rodney Edisemi’s ‘The King’s Ally’ book launch

A book tilted “The King’s Ally’ and described as a Rebirth of Izon Orature was recently launched at the NUJ Secretariat in Yanegoa, Bayelsa State.

Written by Bayelsa state born administrator, political philosopher and writer, Mr. Rodney Edisemi Ere, “The King’s Ally” which is on Amazon, is a cocktail of facts told in fictional tale, in novel structure and form. It revolves on the archetypal template of greed and evil against nobility and grace.

Set in fictional Ogboin Kingdom in the heart of the Niger Delta creeks and interjected with colonial Lagos and the United Kingdom, in the late 1880s, it is the story of a king in search of a male offspring as heir, inspite of his numerous wives who bore him female children. In his restless quest he went through the intrigues and intricacies of life’s plagues.
Reviewing the book Amatari Mozimo, Vice Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Bayelsa State, described the book as a beautifully crafted work of fiction, telling the story of a powerful King wanting a son, while his close confidant is seeking his crown.

Author of the book Mr Rodney Edisemi Ere says the book, which is his debute work, was inspired by the need to showcase the diverse rich cultures in the country and continent as well as
to cultivate the habit of reading in the youths.

The 194 pages story is embellished with the rich local colours and flavours of wrestling bouts, festivals, adventurous huntings, fishing and farming as occupational mainstay of the Ijaw people whose daily lives are overtly reflected in this masterpiece.
