In response to allegations of child pornography and rape , R&B artist Robert Kelly, better known as R Kelly, received an additional 20 years in prison.

The musician received the sentence on Thursday from a federal court in Chicago.

The three-time Grammy winner is anticipated to serve 19 of those years concurrently with a previous 30-year prison sentence from a different case in New York on July 29, 2022, which only increases his prison term by one year.

Due to the two charges, he will currently serve 31 years in prison.

Kelly was found guilty in September on three counts of creating child pornography and three counts of persuading a juvenile to participate in illegal sex.

Once his other 30-year jail sentence is finished, the prosecution had asked for a 25-year sentence to be imposed.

But, Kelly’s defense requested that the 25 years be served concurrently with his 30-year term in the New York case.

According to their filing, Kelly is already incarcerated for a de facto life sentence.

Six of the 13 accusations made against the artist in relation with sexual assault throughout the 1990s were found true by a Chicago jury.

Three counts of forcing kids into sexual conduct and three counts of making sex recordings with a minor are included in the charges.

He was cleared of two other counts of inciting minors to have sex as well as an allegation that he tried to hinder a previous inquiry into his abuse of the goddaughter.

Kelly has been charged with sexually abusing kids and young people on numerous occasions during the 1990s.

The 2019 Lifetime documentary, “Surviving R Kelly,” addressed claims that Kelly’s network of followers shielded him and kept his victims silent for decades, giving the assault allegations against him widespread exposure.

Kelly was detained by federal agents in Chicago back in 2019 and moved to New York in June of that same year.
