Ten things NOT TO STORE on your kitchen countertop

August 6,2023
Share:

While kitchen countertops are meant for easy access to frequently used items, some things are best kept off the countertop to maintain a clean and organized space.

Here are some items you should avoid storing on your kitchen countertop:

1. Excessive appliances: Limit the number of appliances you keep on the countertop. Items like toasters, blenders, and coffee makers can take up valuable space. Only keep the appliances you use daily or regularly, and store the rest in cabinets or a designated appliance garage.

2. Clutter: Avoid accumulating unnecessary clutter on the countertop. Items like mail, keys, paperwork, and random odds and ends should have a designated spot outside of the kitchen.

3. Cutting boards and chopping blocks: While it’s convenient to have cutting boards at hand, leaving them on the countertop can take up valuable space and lead to a messy appearance. Store them vertically in a rack or mounted on the inside of a cabinet door.

4. Cookbooks: Instead of storing cookbooks on the countertop, consider installing floating shelves on the kitchen wall to keep them easily accessible without taking up the workspace.

5. Large pots and pans: Storing oversized pots and pans on the countertop can make it feel cluttered. Opt to store them in deeper drawers or hanging racks to save space.

6. Cleaning supplies: While it’s essential to have cleaning supplies nearby, storing them on the countertop can create an unappealing visual. Keep cleaning products under the sink or in a nearby utility closet.

7. Excess utensils: Only keep essential utensils on the countertop, such as the ones you use daily. Extra utensils can be stored in drawers or containers.

8. Plastic containers and lids: Store plastic containers and their lids in a cabinet or drawer specifically designated for food storage items. Keeping them on the countertop can make the kitchen look messy.

9. Heavy or bulky decorative items: While a few decorative items can add character to your kitchen, avoid placing heavy or bulky decorations on the countertop. They can be difficult to clean around and take up valuable workspace.

10. Food items: Unless you have a designated fruit bowl or breadbasket, avoid leaving perishable food items like fruits and vegetables on the countertop for an extended period. They can attract pests and clutter the space.
Remember, keeping your kitchen countertop free from unnecessary items will not only make the space more visually appealing but also create a more functional and efficient workspace for your daily cooking and meal preparations.
