Foods To Push Back Breast Cancer

Ever heard the saying food is primary healthcare? Thats absolutely no joke. Your daily diet, experts say, can affect your overall health and impact your vulnerability to diseases such as breast cancer one of the leading causes of death among women globally.

Although no single food will prevent the disease, a few stand out for their cancer-combating properties. Whether you’re looking to cut down your risk, slow the growth of already existing cancer cells, or make them respond better to treatment (if undergoing one), these superfoods will sure help.

Tomatoes

Now you have a reason to include a serving or two of tomatoes in your diet each day by adding them to sandwiches, salads, sauces or pasta dishes. Tomatoes are loaded with a powerful antioxidant called lycopen an anti-cancer property that is also responsible for its the redness. In laboratory tests, lycopene has been successfully used to stop cancer cells from growing. Consuming tomatoes alongside foods that are high in iron can, however, reduce their cancer-fighting effects.

Nuts

N is the time to consciously begin to add nuts to your diet each day. Cancer studies show that people who ate a sizeable portion of nuts daily have a 15 percent lower overall cancer risk than those who did not. All nuts have fiber, protein and healthy fat, but each one offers additional nutrients. So, it makes sense to mix up different nuts. For instance, you can mix up almond, groundnut, cashew nuts, hazel nut, walnuts and more.

Broccoli

Broccoli and its cruciferous brothers cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale and collard greens have long been associated with a reduced risk of cancer. Precisely, a property in each of these veggies inactivates a gene that plays a role in a variety of cancers. Broccoli, for example, is loaded with a cancer-thwarting molecule known as sulforaphane, which has tumor-suppressing capabilities.

Legumes
Research says having a diet containing at least 30 grams of fiber per day can help push back cancer, and the good news is that beans, peas, chickpeas and lentils collectively known as pulses, or legumes meet this checklist. Infuse more of them in your daily diet.

Berries

All berries strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries are packed with cancer-fighting plant compounds known as phytochemicals. When you eat them, these phytochemicals interact with one another, other nutrients and your gut bacteria to help fend off chronic diseases like cancer.
They also play an equally big role in maintaining a healthy weight.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is well-known for its health benefits, including its ability to reduce blood sugar and ease inflammation. Studies however show that cinnamon may also help block the spread of cancer cells and induce their death.Including half to one teaspoon of cinnamon in your diet per day may, therefore, be beneficial in cancer prevention.

Mushrooms
Ergothioneine, a unique and potent antioxidant that protects cells, is present in mushrooms than any other food. Studies also show that people who included mushrooms in their daily diets had a lower risk of cancer. Aim for about a quarter-cup of mushrooms every day.

Whole grains
You probably did not know this but whole grains like oats, brown rice, barley, corn, quinoa and whole wheat are loaded with fiber, antioxidants and phytoestrogens; plant-based compounds that have a slew of health benefits, including a lowered risk of breast cancer. Plan to infuse a good portion into your diet.
