Critical Review of Beth Macaulay Couture’s Summer Breeze Collection

August 1,2024

By Rita Okoye
Renowned fashion designer Elizabeth Omobolanle Macaulay has once again captivated the world with her latest collection, “Summer Breeze.”

Launched in August 2024 by her studio, Beth Macaulay Couture (BMC), this collection is a celebration of the carefree spirit and vibrant colours of the summer season.

Macaulay, a visionary in the fashion industry, drew inspiration for the Summer Breeze Collection from the warmth and tranquillity of the summer months.

The collection’s focus is on embracing the season’s essence through its vibrant colours and comfortable designs.

To embody the African aesthetic and the breathability of summer, Macaulay and her team chose Ankara Afrocentric fabrics as the primary material. The collection features a harmonious blend of colours that evoke the joy and energy of the season.

The designs themselves are characterized by relaxed tops and comfortable dresses, ensuring a perfect fit for the warmer weather.

One piece from this collection features a bright and playful colourful dress with abstract tropical prints in shades of pink, yellow, blue, and black. The model paired the dress with white chunky sandals.
This colourful, loose-fitting dress with its vibrant pattern stands out and gives off a cheerful, bold vibe. The palm tree motifs and splashy colours suggest a relaxed, summery, and carefree aesthetic.

The drawstring detail on the sides adds some customization to the shape, giving the wearer the option to alter the fit. It’s perfect for casual or outdoor events.
This ensemble strikes a balance between comfort and style, making it ideal for a day out in a park or a casual social event.

However, depending on personal preference, pairing the outfit with minimal sandals could create a different look, either more cohesive or balanced with the boldness of the dress.

Another piece that caught our attention was the two-piece with purple and black geometric patterns. The cropped jacket-like top adds a layer of sophistication with its structured shape, and the bold print makes it a statement piece. The short sleeves and V-neck design help balance the busy pattern, creating an elegant but casual vibe.

However, the top doesn’t look as relaxed as expected, and this has tampered with the outfit.
On its part, the matching high-waisted shorts offer a laid-back but chic feel, perfect for a day out. The length is just right for comfort and style, and it complements the top without overwhelming the look.
The choice of white sneakers brings a contemporary, sporty touch to the outfit. It adds to the casual, playful tone and ensures comfort while keeping the outfit trendy.
Overall, these pieces from Summer Breeze perfectly blend traditional prints with modern fashion elements, making them a great choice for a casual outing while still looking stylish and put-together.

In conclusion, Elizabeth Omobolanle Macaulay, the Creative Director of Beth Macaulay Couture, has been immersed in the world of fashion design for over a decade. With a passion for creating pieces that empower individuals to express their unique style, Macaulay founded BMC in 2019.
The brand’s mission is to offer well-tailored clothing that inspires and endures. Macaulay’s dream for Beth Macaulay Couture is to continue telling fashion stories, one style at a time. Through her unwavering commitment to quality and attention to detail, BMC has gained a reputation for producing exceptional pieces that cater to diverse tastes and occasions. From corporate attire to party dresses, the brand offers a range of options for fashion-conscious individuals.
