Review: “Eden Aura” – A Beautiful Expression of Modern African Femininity by Sabdelice

Attending the private unveiling of Sabdelice’s “Eden Aura” Collection on June 5th, 2025, felt like witnessing a fresh, elegant chapter in contemporary African fashion. The intimate event, held in a clean and minimalist venue in Lagos, was stripped of any distractions, simple grey walls and soft lighting ensured that the designs by creative director and fashion designer Akintolure-Lawal Temitope Deborah remained the focal point of the evening.

The collection opened with a knee-length white dress that immediately set the tone for what was to follow, bold yet graceful. The piece featured striking royal purple panels along the sides, with soft circular embroidery adorning the front. Puffed sleeves added volume without overwhelming the look, and the gentle movement of the skirt created a sense of effortless charm.

Next was a vibrant display of colour in a yellow and purple fit-and-flare dress. Large, joyful floral patterns sat beautifully on a base of white lace, while the flared silhouette gave it a youthful energy. Styled with high-shine black boots, it combined tradition and modern street style seamlessly.

The third outfit took on a playful spirit with a short off-shoulder dress in navy blue, decorated with colourful geometric prints. A soft ruffled neckline highlighted the shoulders, and the pleated skirt added lightness with every step. It was a delightful balance of casual and sophisticated.

The following look shifted into structured tailoring: a sharply cut two-piece suit in grey with bold magenta circular patterns throughout. The blazer was fitted, the trousers flowed neatly, and the entire ensemble was striking without feeling too formal—a modern power look.

Moving into deeper tones, a maroon ensemble brought richness to the collection. A corset-style top paired with relaxed-fit trousers was accompanied by a long robe jacket adorned in vivid pink floral appliqués and green accents. The robe moved fluidly, adding drama to an otherwise structured base.

Another off-shoulder dress followed, bringing back a playful rhythm. This time, a bright blue fabric featured vertical bands of multi-coloured patterns, with soft pleats adding dimension to the skirt. The ruffled neckline softened the look, making it ideal for a relaxed yet fashionable occasion.

Closing the show was an unforgettable royal blue floor-length gown. Large golden floral motifs swept across the fabric, and the fitted bodice flowed into an elegant, voluminous train. The model walked gracefully, and the gown followed her like a wave, bold, majestic, and timeless.

The models themselves reflected the collection’s message, diverse in appearance and styling, with natural afros, braids, and minimal makeup. Their confident strides reinforced the beauty and strength of the collection’s theme.

Through “Eden Aura,” Akintolure-Lawal Temitope Deborah delivered a body of work that celebrated both heritage and modern expression. Each piece felt wearable yet elevated, making it clear that Sabdelice continues to grow as a brand championing contemporary African fashion with sophistication and heart.
