120 Ajegunle teens embrace peace at NGO’s transformative bootcamp

In a move to foster the values of peace, tolerance, and understanding in the next generation of young Nigerians, Teens Going For Gold Network (TGFGN) recently hosted over 100 teenagers from Ajegunle at its transformative Peace Education Bootcamp.

Teens Going for Gold Network (TGFGN) is a youth-focused non-profit organisation which provides tailored peace education to teenagers in Nigeria’s most at-risk communities.

Dr. Godsgift Obi, Deputy Director of TGFGN, in an opening remark and icebreaker session, stated that the bootcamp was tailored to the realities of Lagos, with participants drawn from several schools in Ajegunle.

From the power of dialogue to the dangers of spreading online hate, the bootcamp’s sessions explored timely issues, including how social media can be both a bridge and a battlefield.

In her welcome address, TGFGN Founder, Mrs. Pelumi Obisesan-Aina, spoke on the pressing need for peace in today’s world.

Citing recent violence in Benue State, she highlighted the importance of equipping young people with the tools to build harmony, not hate, in their local communities.

The highlight of the bootcamp was the unveiling of the Peace Education Manual, titled “Kojo and Friends”, authored by Obisesan-Aina.

The book, which follows the journey of four friends from different Nigerian ethnic groups navigating life in Lagos, became an instant favourite among the teens. Participants were also guided to answer the questions in the accompanying workbook, share personal reflections, and connect deeply with the themes of unity and understanding.

Another exciting moment during the boot camp was when the TGFGN Executive Director, Hon. Tobi Olatunji, launched the #PeaceAmbassadorChallenge.
The challenge is a call-to-action that empowers and encourages the teens to share their learnings from the event in their communities, with educational materials up for grabs for those who document themselves sharing these learnings through videos and photos.

Mr. Isaac Omoyele, Founder of MyDreamStead School, expressed deep gratitude to TGFGN and applauded the participating students and schools for taking bold steps toward peacebuilding in Ajegunle.
Participating schools included My Dream Stead School, Waves of Impact School, Gleam Stars College, Dezels College, and Unique Standard Academy.
Teens Going for Gold Network (TGFGN) has empowered over fifteen thousand Nigerian teenagers since its inception in 2012, and aims to foster sustainable peace and development across Nigeria.
