SPACE TO GROW: KEEPING LOVE ALIVE

In the whirlwind of marriage, it’s easy to get lost in the “we” and forget the “I”. Giving each other space to grow isn’t about creating distance; it’s about nurturing the individuals who make up the “we” with intention, creating room for personal growth, using the time for self-care, reflection, such that you come back feeling seen and even closer.

This delicate balance between togetherness and independence is crucial for a healthy relationship, it helps with check-ins and shared moments after space.
Giving space allows partners to recharge, rediscover themselves, and pursue individual passions in the never ending-cycle of push and pull, sometimes aligning and at other times, each person wanting different things.
This independence can reignite personal growth, making each partner a more fulfilled and interesting person.
When individuals have the freedom to explore their interests, they’re more likely to bring new energy and excitement to the relationship. Research shows that couples who maintain their individuality tend to have higher relationship satisfaction (Gottman & Silver, 2015).

Having space can also boost intimacy, when both partners have their own lives, they bring fresh perspectives and experiences to share. It’s about quality over quantity, and having space allows couples to appreciate each other’s company more.

Setting boundaries isn’t about walls; it’s about respect. Giving space shows you value your partner’s needs and trust them to manage theirs. This trust strengthens the bond and creates a safe space for both partners to grow.

In every nurturing union, creating space for your partner to grow as an individual is as important as the connection you share!

Here Are Practical Steps:
It’s perfectly normal and valid to give space: when this happens, it means it’s time to self-reflect, focusing on personal growth:

★Encourage solo hobbies: Support each other’s passions, whether it’s painting, hiking, or cooking classes. This creates new experiences and topics to share.

★Respect alone time: Recognise when your partner needs space and use that time to focus on yourself.

★Support personal goals: Be each other’s cheerleader, whether it’s career advancement or personal challenges.

★Communicate needs openly: Regular check-ins can help prevent misunderstandings and build trust.

★Schedule regular “me-time”: Make time for self-care and personal growth, guilt-free.

In conclusion, giving space in marriage isn’t about being manipulative, withdrawing love, or drifting apart; it’s about creating room for both partners to flourish.
Love isn’t about possession; it’s about appreciation.
