My Lagos city adventure

My Lagos city adventure!

It has been unbearably hot for the last couple of weeks, and tempers frayed. People are walking around ready to snap at the least provocation. Scientists have suggested the equinox as the cause; it has been intolerably hot, I would like to put forward, besides, to the unrelenting traffic humbly. Seriously though, how’s a person supposed to be celebrated around here when we don’t even have the pure freedom of movement. It is Oddbod and the City- My Lagos Adventure.Amala @ Nok by Alara

Gone are the days when a girl could answer the lunchtime call for amala with gbegiri and ewedu with a quick mission to Ikosi-Ketu or Ikeja GRA for my fav. As I mentioned before, traffic in Lagos will not let me be great. I am pleased to report that my mission to find a suitable replacement has been fruitful and most enjoyable.
Currently, I am a massive fan of the Amala at Nok served on a Thursday afternoon. The kitchen closes at 3 pm before the evening service so does make a new lunch situation. The assorted meat is perfection, and I don’t know what they do to the shaki but is hands down the best I ever tasted. An honourable mention goes out to the cocktail menu packed full of Afrocentric original, innovative and yummy drinks. Don’t judge me but my favourite thing to do after some correct hot amala and a few cocktails is to go home and have a nap. It’s all about the simple pleasures. The joy of farm to tableI have deep and abiding envy of anybody who enjoys eating healthy. If it’s not deep fried in trans fats and trailing three kinds of cheese in its wake, I am not interested. Sadly, my perfect relationship with food was dealt a deathblow when my doctor had conniptions over my BMI and unexplained (cough, cough) weight gain.
I made the simple decision to increase my vegetable intake and reduce those pesky carbs. Not an easy task if you are looking for variety, it turns out veggies are expensive, and I kept missing delivery days at the supermarket — Farmgate Agro Allied Company (farmgateallied.com) to the rescue. Fresh, exotic vegetables and berries from farms in Du Village in Plateau State delivered to your home.Affordable broccoli, strawberries in abundance and the MVP delicious, soft, soft, sweet sweetcorn. All this with the bonus of cutting out market runs in this heat and traffic. If you don’t have the best relationship with vegetables, times have changed since being served soggy Brussel sprouts at boarding school. YouTube is your friend, delicious healthy recipes and variety will change your life. You are welcome.Happiness thy name is Dogonyaro!Lagos city adventure
My love affair with Aweni Organics (check them out on Instagram @aweniorganics) started over a year ago with a gift basket from my road dawg. She understands the beauty product loving beast that lives within me and feeds it regularly, ‘bless her.’Love, love, love the African liquid black soap, the magic Shea butter oil that I mix with water for my hair spray and use for massages and the baobab oil with all its excellent healing properties that I use on my hands and neck.Lagos city adventure
I have what I will politely call an obsession with the Dogonyaro soap; I am not alone because this baby sells out as soon as it comes out of production. It smells delicious, lathers up like a dream and is packed full of skin nourishing goodness like neem oil, olive oil, shea butter, coconut oil, a blend of therapeutic essential oils and activated charcoal. With all those moisturising ingredients it’s a gentle but effective cleanser which those of us with sensitive skin appreciate and is suitable for the whole body.
I want to take this opportunity to commend this brand for representing ‘Made in Nigeria’ excellence. Packaging, customer service, the whole experience A*.I would love to hear from you, DM on Instagram @le_Oddbod
