What exactly is the Nigerian dream?- Betty Irabor asks as she shares her true feelings about Independence Day celebration

Not many people are excited about Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration as they question what the government has been able to achieve over the years.

Publisher, Betty Irabor has shared how she truly feels about the country’s 59th Independence celebration and many people can relate to it. The publisher took to her Instagram page to question the present state of the country.

She noted that she has seen the best of Nigeria and she believes that the country can rise again if everyone can rise up to their responsibilities.

She wrote,

Nigeria, here is me looking at you and wondering; “exactly at what point did we take that wrong turn? The future is here and the youths are nowhere near being the leaders they were told they would be. Are the youth even ready?

My generation has failed us and the rape of Nigeria continues. What exactly is the Nigerian dream?

Food on the table? jobs? pipe borne water for all? (we are still doing photo op for sinking boreholes & road side latrines), basic education? Health for all? Electricity? Security? one Nigeria without the tribe divide?

A nation where being human is our only religion? A nation where the police is truly my friend? freedom of expression without the gag? Hope? Fairness, justice for all? A nation without child labour? A nation where women advancement and gender parity is not mere slogan?

59 years? I have seen the best of Nigeria and I believe Nigeria can be great again if we all stop playing the blame game and play our part. Our leaders must lead not oppress us. Leaders ought to be servants not make us their servants.

WE all have to stop the rape of this country by being collectively accountable and responsible. We can fix this country and restore hope as long as we understand that we all need to put in the work…

Happy anniversary Nigeria… together we stand, divided we fall..
